STRONG KIDS SUMMER EDUCATIONAL AND ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
In 2014, a summer program was started at the CPLRC, serving 10 – 14 children for seven weeks. The goals of this program were to improve upon and maintain literacy and math skills, reinforce positive behaviors and allow participation in daily physical activity. A key partner in the program, CDS Family & Behavioral Health Services, provided a full-time staff member to lead the summer program. In order to expand and strengthen the program, 2015 partners and contributors will also include the City of Gainesville Parks and Recreation, UF Family Nutrition Program, Peaceful Paths and Kids Count.
CHRISTMAS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
During the 2014 Christmas season, the CPLRC provided Christmas toys to children through donations from the Marine’s Toys for Tots Program and Junior League’s Miracle on Main Street event.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT EVENTS
The CPLRC partners with the Alachua County Library District, Gainesville Housing Authority and Gainesville Police Department to provide quarterly community engagement events that promote parent-child activities, provide resource information to the community and strengthen partnerships with families in southeast Gainesville.
NEST EGG 2.0 PROGRAM
The CPLRC has launched a program to help parents with young children start college savings accounts for their children. This program helps parents strengthen skills in financial literacy and be their children’s first teacher in order to achieve their goals. This program is made possible by community partners and a grant from the Community Foundation of North Central Florida.
