In September, 2014, Alachua County was named by the Florida Department of Children and Families as a pilot site for the Family Intensive Treatment Team (FITT) grant. Partnership for Strong Families partnered with substance abuse and mental health provider Meridian Behavioral Healthcare to provide wraparound, intensive and family-focused substance abuse treatment for 39 families over the course of the funding period, which ended on June 30, 2015.
Families served through this program reside in Alachua County, have a diagnosed substance abuse issue and a child under the age of 10. Partnership for Strong Families used this criteria to select families who receive ongoing case management services and referred the clients to Meridian, who then clinically assessed the family to determine if they would be a good fit for the program. The two agencies staffed each case receiving FITT services on a monthly basis to share case planning progress as well as treatment progress.
At the end of the funding period, 40 families received treatment (39 was the target goal). Of these 40 families, 33 are still receiving services and 7 have been discharged. We are happy to announce the funding for the FITT project in Alachua County has been renewed for another year.
