Solution Based Casework
In September 2010, PSF and the Department for Children and Families launched a family-centered initiative by embracing and implementing Solution Based Casework (SBC) into our system of care in North Central Florida. This model, developed through the extensive study of more than 5,000 cases over 10 years, allows for more of a partnership between child welfare professionals and parents as they jointly determine a course of action.
The basic goal of SBC is to develop a partnership with the family, providers and family networks while focusing on pragmatic coping and prevention skills that assist in everyday family tasks. It prioritizes partnerships with families, identifies problems in everyday family situations, organizes case plans considering both family and individual objectives and documents changes in family members’ skill levels.
Research and empirical evidence prove that the SBC program works to help families and caseworkers create a unity of purpose as they work together to achieve the most beneficial outcomes for all involved.
